More about Walking, Writing
Walking, Writing was a short piece of delivery building on my experience in leading and poetry and word play workshops whilst walking as well as performing walking poetry. As a writer, I often construct pieces in my head whilst walking, being inspired by the rhythm of my movement as well as the scenery, smells and sounds that in the environment.
I developed Walking, Writing for children and young people to create opportunity for playing with words, removing the pressure associated with 'poetry' and leaning into curiosity and playful expression. Tasks included chalk writing words as they looked or sounded, listening to the sounds around us and writing them as we hear them - nonsense words encouraged! - and alliterative lists.
As Creative Activity Lead Artist, I was responsible for:
-
developing the project idea and methods
-
adapting to the children and young people's responses to the activities
-
encouraging and celebrating creativity
